Background Knowledge (links):
Objective: demonstrate the first law of thermodynamics using thermochemistry. A coffee cup calorimeter will be used to measure the heat change of metal and 3 ionic compounds (NaCl, NH4Cl or NaOH) once the heat capacity of the coffee cup calorimeter itself has been determined.
PreLab
