About every week, you will complete an experiment in lab (see syllabus). A pre-lab must be completed and turned in prior to the experiment for that day and a completed lab assignment/report (datasheet and post-lab questions) will be turned covering the previous weeks lab.

Below are items covered in a more or less chronological order of when you will complete or turn them in. Guides for these components (pre-lab, quizzes, experiment & datasheet, and post-lab). They will be covered in much more detail for their specific experiment which can be found in the links provided below.

PRE-LAB

Labs will generally meet weekly, and you will complete a pre-lab nearly every week for the experiment that will be performed and turn it in at the beginning of lab. The pre-lab will require you to fill out a pre-lab template found and BB. This pre-lab will have you write down the lab procedure in your own words, show sample calculations for the specific experiment, and provide a list of reagents used with its information (molar mass, quantity used, name, etc.).

EXPERIMENTS & DATASHEET

Based on past semesters, this lab will cover 11 experiments, but only the highest 10 experiment grades will be counted toward your average. At the start of each experiment, the TA will give a short lecture. These lectures may contain important information regarding changes to the experiment, calculations, safety, etc. It may be helpful to take notes or pictures of what is presented.

Before yous start the experiment, remember to wear your goggles and lab coat. Gloves of different sizes are also available for your use and can be found ontop of the lab bench. As you complete the experiment, remember to fill in the data on you datasheet, which can be found in your lab manual (link). Make sure your data matches those recorded by your lab partner(s). Have your TA sign the datasheet once you have completed the experiment. Clean your equipment and area after you complete the experiment.

POST-LAB

Every experiment will have post-lab questions. These can be found in the back of your lab manual (link). Once completed, the datasheet, post-lab and any additional calculations, tables or graphs will be turned in the following week along with the pre-lab for the next experiment.

These are meant to guide you in preparing your own work. They include the prelab, datasheet, postlab questions and additional materials like charts, tables, pre-made spreadsheets, and potential quiz questions for that specific lab. Information provide has been redesigned that provide similar questions and sample data. Please note that your answers should be different since they will be dependent on data you obtained when performing the experiment. The experiments are ordered numerically for easier navigation but are not necessarily performed in that order. All material is subject to change. Listed below are materials for experiments performed in Chem 1111.

experiment 6 - gas laws

experiment 7 - determination of molar mass
