For many of you, this may be your first lab and can be overwhelming. This page is to get you up to speed on what to expect. Most likely, you will not be doing an experiment during your first day. Rather, you will be watching a lab safety video, checking-in, getting an equipment drawer, making sure you have all the equipment and getting your TA contact info.

Lab safety video

A lab safety video will be shown to you during the first day of lab. The video is approximately 30 minutes in length, and the information will be needed for performing future experiments. This information may also show up on quizzes so pay attention and take notes if needed.

equipment check-in

You will put your name on a list. This list will tell you the drawer assigned to you for the semester. The drawer will be unlocked for you to place your own lock. Inside the drawer will be the equipment needed to perform the experiments. Using a check-in sheet, you will check to see if all listed items are in your drawer, fill the sheet out with your lab information, and turn in the sheet signed. Be sure you have all the equipment listed, clean and undamaged.

This list will be used at the end of the semester to check-out. Any items items are missing or damaged at the end of semester must be replaced. Below or a list of items you may find in your drawer. You will need to be able to identify these items for experiments and quizzes. When you finish checking your equipment, use your own combination lock to secure the drawer assigned to you. Below are names and links of equipment in your drawer and additional ones you may see and use in lab so you have an idea of what they look like.
